Online Jobs: List of Best Website for Work at Home

Work from home or home-based jobs sometimes could also be referred to as online jobs, which is an attractive opportunity, especially for stay-at-home mothers, homemakers, and persons with disabilities. Work from home is also an opportunity for those who are tired of commuting to work or don’t want to relocate. Many say that they are earning higher than working in their previous jobs. That is why many turn to this type of job.

But how do you know if the job offered is legit? And, where do you find these legit offers? Here’s a list of websites that you can refer to for your next online job hunting.

Online Job Platform

Upwork

It is an American freelancing platform where companies (small to big enterprise) and individuals (jobseeker) connects to conduct a business (hire to work). It is a well-known platform for many, and it had connected hundreds of thousands of individuals and companies since 2015, when it was founded.

How Upwork works? Once you have signed up with Upwork as a job seeker, you can browse different enterprises’ job postings and click apply. You can find full-time and part-time jobs or project-based. Signing up is free. However, once you are hired, Upwork imposes a service fee:

> 20% – first $500 billed with the client
(Example: You got hired for your first job, and you billed your client $500. Instead of getting $500, you will only receive $400 since $100 (20% of $500) is deducted by Upwork as a service fee)

> 10% – lifetime billings with the client between $500.01 and $10,000
(Example: If your monthly rate is $800, you will only get $720 since the $80 is the Upwork service fee)

> 5% – lifetime billings with the client that exceed $10,000

Freelancer

Freelancer is an Australian online job platform founded in 2009. It is a platform that allows employers to post jobs that freelancers can then bid to complete. For you to be able to bid on a project, you will need to register and create a profile in Freelancer. You can find a part-time or full-time job on this platform. And, you can withdraw your payment or salary through PayPal or Skrill and wire transfer.

Freelancer imposes a service fee of 10% or $5 (whichever is higher) fee for fixed priced contracts and 10% of the total project cost for hourly jobs. They also have a payment platform called Milestone Payment. It is a program that offers protection to both employers and freelancers when it comes to payments. There is a 20% service fee when freelancers request a release of Milestone Payment.

Guru

Guru, founded in 1998, is an online freelance marketplace that allows companies to find freelance workers. Just like Upwork and Freelancer, you need to register to apply or bid for the jobs posted. Freelance workers can choose to get an hourly rate, fixed price, or task-based.

Guru offers free membership and premium membership. For free members, a 9% fee will be charged by Guru on your earnings. Premium members get a lower charge based on their type of membership (see table below).

PeoplePerHour

PeoplePerHour, founded in 2007, is a UK-based company providing an online platform for business access to freelance workers. To join the PeoplePerHour freelancer community, complete an online application that will be reviewed and approved by their moderation team. When your application is approved, you will gain access to their list of projects from their international clients. You can withdraw your PPH (PeoplePerHour) balance through bank transfers, PayPal, or Payoneer.

Unfortunately, this platform has a service fee like the three others mentioned before. The following fee setup is implemented for all freelancers.

  • 3.5% – lifetime billing for over $7000
  • 7.5% – lifetime billing for between $350 and $7000
  • 20% – lifetime billing for below $350
